Articles: Psychology and ReprogrammingDiet vs Lifestyle ChangeMost diets fail. Study after study has shown that fewer than 5% of dieters keep off the weight they lose for a year. After a year, the percentage is even smaller. What dieting does cause is health problems. High cholesterol, heart problems, and other risks we hear are associated with being overweight are actually more closely associated with frequent dieting. To be healthy does not take dieting, but a lifestyle change. Unlike a diet, a lifestyle change is your choice and under your control. If you truly are overweight, the right lifestyle change will help you lose the right amount of weight. A lifestyle change will certainly improve your health, whether or not weight loss is part of the picture. When you make a lifestyle change, you get to decide which foods are best for you and which, if any, you shouldn’t eat. You decide what kind of exercise is comfortable for you and when it is best for you to do it. Achieving this takes close attention to your own feelings and responses. It is the complete opposite of a diet. |
