Peer Pressure: Changing Eating Habits When Others Won’t

One of the toughest things about losing weight is changing your diet. You think at first it will be easy. Your mind says I can eat salad at lunch and plain chicken for dinner. I can substitute a candy bar for a snack and have fruit instead. What you will forget about are the people you eat with. The first time you go out to eat with coworkers or friends and you order a salad instead of a burger you’re going to hear about it. The subtle jokes and questions about why you are trying to lose weight and then when the food arrives you will see all the things you crave to eat.

Unfortunately you’re not going to be able to change your group all of the sudden. Humility is your best bet here. Be honest with those around you that you are trying to change your life for the better. Laugh of the criticism. For some you might want to start eating by yourself at times to stay away from temptation. Preparing lunch before the day also helps. That chicken salad will look better when it’s ready and your only lunch option.

Changing your eating habits takes dedication. Just remember at the end of the day you will feel and look better.
